Can I book a Locair flight online? (return to top)

Yes. We have a 24 hour website where anyone can go view our schedule, our fares, and make a purchase online. We are hopeful to be available to the larger Online Travel Agencies sometime this year (such as Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity). Our system allows it, but we must first qualify the business requirements of those travel agencies and determine if it makes business sense.

Where does Locair operate out of? (return to top)

Florida & Bahamas:
We utilize the Main Terminals at all of our Bahamas airports in which we have scheduled air-taxi flights. In Ft. Lauderdale we use Sheltair-Jet center on the WEST side of the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (free parking!). In St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport we use the Main Terminal – Ticketing Lobby A. All passengers departing St. Petersburg will have to clear proper TSA-security screening.

Mid-Atlantic:
We are in the Main Terminal in Somerset, Kentucky and Beckley, West Virginia. Both airports offer free parking. In Baltimore & Washington-Dulles, we utilize Signature Flight Support, offering our customers a luxurious private terminal with free parking.

What are the check-in requirements & procedures? (return to top)

Florida & Bahamas:
Proper ID is required for anyone traveling internationally (typically a valid passport or visa). For international travel we require that you arrive to check-in at least 75 minutes (1:15 hours) prior to your scheduled departure time. For flights leaving from the Bahamas you must be at the airport at least 60 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. Keep in mind that flights departing from St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport must clear TSA, please allow yourself ample time to do so.

Mid-Atlantic:
Proper ID is required for all individuals of age 18 years and older. For Domestic flights we request that you arrive to check-in at least 45 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. You must be at the airport at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure so that we may perform the check-in and load your bags without delaying the flight. Our pilots will verify your ID's and check you in at Beckley, Baltimore, and Washington-Dulles airports.

Does Locair offer pre-assigned seating? (return to top)

Unfortunately no. Due to our aircraft offering both cargo & passenger services, we perform a weight and balance for each flight. Therefore, we offer seat assignments at check-in. You can always request your seating preference at check-in. Minors under 15 may NOT sit in the exit rows – seats 2A, 5C, 6A, and 6C or as identified by the flight crew.

Why don’t you require us to go thru security? (return to top)

The TSA regulates screening of passengers for air travel and because of our smaller size, it is not REQUIRED that all passengers go through full screening. Even though most of our locations do not require you to go through the TSA screening, it is still SAFE to fly with us. Keep in mind that our operations out of the St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida airport will require passengers to go through the TSA security checkpoint & all bags will be screened per TSA guidelines. We work closely with the TSA to ensure that we are in compliance with mandated safety and security measures so that to get you to your destination safely. It is our suggestion that you visit the TSA for Travelers website for detailed information prior to flying, especially if you intend to connect with another airline.

Is Locair a Charter or Scheduled Airline? (return to top)

Locair is certified by the United States FAA & DOT as a Part 135 On-Demand “Air Taxi”, which allows us to fly up to 4 roundtrips a week between any two airports. We have taken the extra step of applying, and receiving, Scheduled Authority from the Bahamas Civil Aviation, which allows us to set times on those 4 flights. We can offer additional flights, however they must be 100% pure charters – and those seats can not be sold to the general public.

How far out does Locair's schedule go? (return to top)

Right now we offer flights thru February 19, 2010 for our Somerset – Washington Dulles flights; April 28, 2010 for Stella Maris (Long Island) operations; and August 14, 2010 for our Abaco, Bahamas operation.

Will the service end when the schedule ends? (return to top)

No. Depending on each airport, we either haven’t come to an agreement to continue operations, the route is seasonal, or we haven’t extended it yet. Many airlines are now limiting their schedule to no more than 6 months out for sale as it enables better customer service by having fewer schedule changes.

What are my options if my flight is delayed? (return to top)

Locair’s goal is to offer on-time flights (within 15 minutes). We will do everything possible to provide up-to-date information to customers whose flights are delayed. We do not offer compensation until the delay has exceeded 120 minutes. Locair is NOT responsible for airline connections, ferry, taxi, or any type of ground transportation at your final destination. If your flight is delayed more than 180 minutes, you may abandon your trip without penalty. We can also change your flight with no penalty. Please see below about our refunds policy.
For our Bahamian travelers, we understand the time restrictions with the ferries to other islands. That is why we’ve scheduled our flights so you have ample time to catch the ferry, even if we run late. However, Locair is NOT responsible for ferry tickets or transportation if we do run late and you miss the last ferry.

What are my options if we are delayed in the air? (return to top)

Unfortunately, there’s not a lot we can do except keep you updated through our pilots. We do keep small provisions of food and water on each and every flight in the event of an arrival delay. However, we must warn you that Locair’s fleet does NOT have lavatory or restroom facilities.

What are my options if my flight is cancelled? (return to top)

Locair strives to offer reliable flights. However, we can’t control mother nature and sometimes extra maintenance is required to ensure your safety. If we cancel a flight that is “controllable”, we will do our best to locate a replacement aircraft or book you on another airline. There may be circumstances in which we can’t do anything – but we will do everything humanly possible to take care of you. We do NOT refund tickets if we are providing transportation – either ground or air. Any alternate transportation MUST be arranged & paid for by Locair, Inc – otherwise you will receive a refund only for the pro-rated portion of your unused ticket. We do NOT provide hotels if an overnight is required and you are at your origination point. There may be instances in which we simply delay the flight by a day in order to satisfy all of our customers’ travel needs. Locair does have an arrangement with Gulfstream International (Continental Connection) to protect our passengers on their flights between Abaco and Ft. Lauderdale; Stella Maris customers have an opportunity to be rebooked to/from Georgetown, Exuma as they do not fly to Long Island.
We understand flying is difficult and we PROMISE to advise you as early as possible if/when a flight is cancelled.

What is Locair’s Refund policy? (return to top)

All tickets are non-refundable but re-useable with a proper change fee and any difference in airfare. In circumstances in which we offer refunds, they are done thru our accounting department at our office and refunds are issued in the form of a U.S. drawn check. Refunds may take anywhere from 30 to 45 days to process. When Locair offers waivers & favors for refunds, there will be a $25 administrative charge, per ticket, for a refund. Examples of waivers & favors include force major events, acts of God, extreme illness/sickness prohibiting travel, or death in the immediate family. Refunds are NOT automatic when we cancel a flight – we strive to provide you with transportation between your ticketed points and we WILL NOT absorb any expenses above & beyond the transportation provided (ie- baggage charges, hotels, shuttles, etc) UNLESS provided and paid for BY Locair.

Does Locair have a codeshare? (return to top)

No. The benefits of a codeshare, right now, do not outweigh the negative. Codeshares are difficult to obtain and increase the cost of air travel. We plan on being, for now, an independent airline focused on getting you to your final destination with the most economical fares we can, at the best times, in the best planes for your market.

What types of planes does Locair operate? (return to top)

Locair flies only twin engine, pressurized turboprops. We have a fleet of 3 Fairchild Metro III aircraft, with seating configurations ranging between 9 and 19 passenger seats; Locair will be adding 2 additional Metro IIIs to our fleet in March 2010. We also have a 1 Fairchild Metro II aircraft available for cargo-only operations. Our Metros, when carrying cargo, have a capacity between 2,500 pounds (when in a 9/10 seat configuration) up to 4,400 pounds (no passenger seats) and can fly up to 600 miles nonstop with this payload.

Why are your airplanes better? (return to top)

Locair flies the twin engine, pressurized Fairchild Metro III's, built in San Antonio, Texas. Our planes have 2 pilots, lots of room for your bags, and every seat is an aisle or window! The aircraft has a solid reputation for flying into small communities, and are able to fly above and around most weather that would ground other operators.
